Introduction

The past decade of welfare reforms has seen dramatic changes to benefits support in the UK. More recently, Covid and other financial pressures are causing serious social and cost of living crises.

At the same time staff and advisers have been under enormous pressures for many reasons. Staff shortages and illnesses have been high while demand has grown and many new tasks and schemes have had to be delivered.

Keeping up with changes to the benefits system, particularly when direct involvement is limited, has sometimes had to be less of a priority than people would like.

Ferret are now offering a course to bring you and your staff up to speed on the changes which have occurred and which are being introduced in the future.

Content

This course looks at the benefits system from the perspective of experienced workers. Some of the topics covered in the course include:
  • Welfare reform – the impacts
  • Change and migration in disability benefits
  • Universal Credit and the legacy systems
  • Managed and natural migration to Universal Credit
  • Transitional protections in Universal Credit
  • What’s happening to Council Tax Reduction schemes
  • HB in the future
  • Other financial support schemes
  • What else is changing and when?
By the end of this course you will -
  • Have a broad knowledge of recent changes across the benefits system
  • Understand the impact of changes on clients
  • Be able to explain the importance of preparing and planning for the changes; for clients and for organisations

There will be a set of course notes to work with on the day together with:
  • On screen presentations
  • Demonstration examples
  • Participant case studies
